In light of poor snowpack and anticipated drought, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources has issued an emergency increase to the daily bag limit at Nine Mile Reservoir. As of May 11, the maximum number of fish anglers can keep from Nine Mile has been increased to 16 trout of any species. The increase is said to be due, in part, to the the historically low snowpack Sanpete County has experienced this year. In a statement released Monday, DWR Director Riley Peck said:
“Nine Mile Reservoir is experiencing drought-related water losses that exceed losses
experienced during periods with normal precipitation. The Utah Division of Wildlife
Resources (Division) is concerned that fish will not survive the summer and we are
therefore proactively liberalizing the limit to 1) reduce trout densities and improve
survival of any remaining fish and 2) encourage anglers to make use of fish that would
otherwise perish.”
The raised daily limit will be in effect through October 1, 2026. All other rules from the 2026 Utah Fishing Guidebook remain in effect. For more information, visit wildlife.utah.gov.
