(Salt Lake City, UT) — New details are emerging about the helicopter crash that killed two pilots while they were fighting the Widemouth 2 Fire earlier this month. The NTSB said Tuesday that pilots Chris Andersen and Miles Elliott were preparing to drop water on the fire August 7th when their helicopter made a right turn and disappeared behind a knoll. The crew then radioed “we have a problem” before issuing a mayday call. The helicopter struck rising terrain, killing both pilots. Some components have been recovered for testing, while the remaining wreckage will be collected when conditions are safe. The cause remains under investigation.
