Wilgar, Lloyd Named To Butkus Award Watch List

CHICAGO-Monday, BYU sophomore linebacker Payton Wilgar and Utah junior linebacker Devin Lloyd were named to the Butkus Award watch list.

This watchlist features 51 linebackers at both the collegiate and high school level as the award honors legendary namesake Dick Butkus’ No. 51.

Butkus starred with the Chicago Bears and the University of Illinois and has been called the best defensive player in NFL history by NFL Films.

Lloyd was a semifinalist for the award last season. The native of Chula Vista, Calif. has 8.5 career sacks, 21 career tackles for a loss and one forced fumble for the Utes.

Wilgar, a product of Dixie High School of St. George, has 9.5 career tackles for a loss, 5 passes defensed, three interceptions and a forced fumble.

Wilgar and Lloyd’s respective teams meet September 11 at Provo following a one-year hiatus of this bitter rivalry.
