Congress Might Investigate After Instructure Pays Ransom

(Salt Lake City, UT) — A hacking group is returning stolen data to the parent company of Canvas after the Salt Lake City firm paid a ransom. The hacking group ShinyHunters said they breached Instructure and warned impacted schools that they had until May 12th to “negotiate a settlement.” Instructure said Canvas was back online Friday morning, and the agreement reportedly covers all impacted customers. Hackers managed to access information like usernames, email addresses, course names, enrollment information and messages. Members of Congress now want to investigate Instructure.
