Monday morning, various Utah college football standouts made appearances on preseason award watch lists.
The Bednarik Award and Maxwell Award watch lists were released Monday.
The Bednarik Award is annually presented to the best defensive player in college football.
The Maxwell Award is annually presented to the best college football player in the country.
Here are the Bednarik and Maxwell Award candidates on the watch list.
Bednarik Award
Utah senior linebacker Devin Lloyd (in 2020, Lloyd posted 2 sacks, a forced fumble and 10 tackles for a loss. For his career, Lloyd has amassed 8.5 sacks, 21 tackles for a loss for the Utes
Utah State junior linebacker Justin Rice. Entering his first season with the Aggies, Rice has amassed 10 sacks, 2 interceptions, 27.5 tackles for a loss, six passes defensed and four forced fumbles with Fresno State and Arkansas State.
Maxwell Award
BYU sophomore tailback Tyler Allgeier. Allgeier has 1,536 scrimmage yards and 14 net touchdowns during his Cougars career. In 2020, Allgeier amassed 1,304 scrimmage yards and 13 net touchdowns. He ran for 1,130 yards and 13 touchdowns last season.
Utah junior quarterback Charlie Brewer. Brewer is in his first season with the Utes and comes to the program from Baylor. In his career with the Bears, Brewer has completed 63.5 percent of his passes for 9,700 yards, 65 touchdowns and 28 interceptions.
