Thursday, several Utah college football standout student-athletes were named to the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List.

This award is named in honor of former University of Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel who won the Heisman Trophy in 1996 for the Gators.

This trophy is given to the player in college football who best exemplifies community service with athletic and academic achievements.

On this list are BYU junior offensive lineman James Empey, Utah junior defensive lineman Mika Tafua (8 career sacks, 6 passes defensed, 19 tackles for a loss, forced fumble) and Utah State junior tailback Calvin Tyler Jr., a transfer from Oregon State. While with the Beavers, Tyler posted three net touchdowns.
