PROVO, Utah-Per news released Wednesday, BYU football added former Utah quarterback /safetyNick Billoups from the transfer portal.

Billoups joined the Cougars’ program earlier this month as a preferred walk-on.

BYU was searching for a backup quarterback because of the losses of preferred walk-on quarterback Jake Jensen and walk-on quarterback Rhett Reilly.

Billoups is a dual threat who can play numerous positions.

He was with the quarterbacks at Utah before being switched to safety headed into spring ball earlier this year.

Billoups previously starred at San Clemente High School of San Clemente, Calif.

He is a former high school teammate of BYU signee Preston Rex. Rex is currently serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
