(Salt Lake City, UT) — The State Senate President admits that a bill designed to make it easier to split up Salt Lake County did not pass before a key deadline. The Senate was voting on HB212 late on Friday night – and a few ticks past midnight. Because voting extended into Saturday, Senate President Stuart Adams admitted that the vote exceeded the Utah Constitution’s 45 day limit on legislative sessions. The bill was designed to make it easier for citizens of counties with over one-million people to start a process to create smaller counties. Salt Lake County just happens to be the only county with more than one-million people.
