Governor Dispels Rumors About ICE Facility in Salt Lake City

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah Governor Spencer Cox is pushing back against rumors of an immigration detention facility planned for Salt Lake City. Protesters gathered Friday outside an empty warehouse near 68-hundred West and one-thousand North after claims surfaced that ICE would house detainees there. In an interview with Fox 13 News, Cox said he’s aware of no plans for detention centers anywhere in Utah and added immigration officials would have contacted him if there were. State Senate Minority Leader Luz Escamilla, who represents the area, also says she cannot confirm any plans for a facility.
