It was a weekend filled with awards and broken clays as the Trigger Therapy High School Sporting Clays team from Ephraim took part in the Utah Youth Education in Shooting Sports State Finals. The competition was held April 30th through May 2nd at Wasatch Wings and Clays in Cedar Fort, Utah, and was the culmination of the season for the local shooters. The shoots results are as follows:
Carter Copple took third in the Class C trap shoot.
Chase Anderson took first in the College division from preliminary trap, super sporting clays, sport skeet, championship trap, and sporting clays. He also took third in championship skeet, and successfully hit 100 clays in a row in trap.
Jaxon Johnson went home with first place in the Novice division for super Sport and sport Skeet. He got second in Novice preliminary trap and Novice Male sporting clays. Jaxon was also named this year’s HOA Novice Male and Novice State Team Captain.
Karter Quarnberg got second in the preliminary trap Senior division and the championship trap Senior Male class, during which he shot 50 straight in trap and ended with a final score of 99/100. He was third overall in sport skeet and Class AA sporting clays, and was named the Senior State Team Captain.
Kasch Willden took first place in JV Prelim Trap, where he, too, shot 50 clays in a row and ended with 99/100 broken birds.
Lilly Nielson took home several first place prizes, including wins in the JV Lady division for championship trap (75 straight, 95/100), championship skeet (25 straight, 98/100), and sporting clays. She got second place in Sportsmanship Annie Oakley, and was named JV Lady HOA and Ladies State Team Captain.
Wyatt Hobush got second in Class A preliminary trap and sporting clays.
Zariah Willden took second place in the Novice Lady division for championship trap, championship skeet, and sporting clays. She was also named HAA Novice Lady.
Richard Lacrue finished in the top ten for Sportsmanship Annie Oakley
Additionally, the team’s coach, Richard Nielson, took first place in the adult super sport competition.
Lilly Nielson, Karter Quarnberg, and Kasch Willden will go on to compete at the State Invitational, the final high school shoot for the season. There they will shoot against other top competitors from around the state for scholarships and cash awards. The invitational will be held May 15th and 16th at Purgatory Clay Sports in Hurricane, Utah.
