The 6-7 Chidester worked his way into the Richfield boys’ basketball rotation for head coach Rand Janes last season and averaged 1.7 points and 0.4 rebounds per contest in 9 games.
Sitake is reportedly seeking to make Chidester a tight end or defensive end, per a report from 247sports.com and has played for the Wildcats’ football team as an offensive and defensive lineman.
What Sitake is banking on has been duplicated in football several times: most notably with the then-San Diego Chargers signing undrafted free agent Antonio Gates as a tight end in 2003 after he starred in basketball at Kent State University.
Gates later posted 955 receptions for 11,841 yards and 116 scores for San Diego from 2003-2018.
