Tuesday, Utah senior defensive tackle Junior Tafuna was named to both the Nagurski and Outland Trophy watch lists.

The Nagurski Trophy is annually awarded to the top defensive player in college football and the Outland Trophy honors the nation’s most outstanding interior lineman.

Tafuna, a senior out of Taylorsville, Utah and Bingham High School, recorded 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, two defensed passes and 3.5 tackles for a loss last season for the Utes.

Tafuna is Utah’s only representative on the Outland Trophy watch list. On the Nagurski Trophy watch list, Tafuna is joined by BYU senior defensive end Tyler Batty (5.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 9 tackles for a loss last season) and Utah State senior safety Ike Larsen (4 interceptions, 6 defensed passes, forced fumble, 4.5 tackles for a loss last season).
