STERLING, Utah-Four teams are battling for a state championship going in to day 2 of the 2A Boys Golf State Championship at Palisade State Park Golf Course Thursday.
Waterford has the slight edge after day 1 of competition with a first round score of 32-over par, just two strokes behind them is Beaver at 34-over par. Sitting in third place is American Heritage at 36-over par and the fourth team fighting for the title is defending state champion South Sevier at 36-over par. Four teams within six strokes of first place going into day 2. Rowland Hall rounds out the top five, with Millard sitting in seventh and Kanab in ninth.
Individually Kanab sophomore Ray Capson is tied with Bradley Woolstenhulme of North Summit for first place at 2-over par. Millard senior Derk Memmott is in third, just one stroke behind and Beaver’s Taven Young is tied with Will Stender IV of Waterford and Carson Vonk of American Heritage for 4th place at 4-over par.
South Sevier’s Ayden Nielson is in seventh at 5-over par, his teammate Cannon Hessey is tied for ninth at 7-over par.
Day 2 is today at Palisade State Park Golf Course in Sterling.
