Weber State’s Josh Davis Named As National Freshman of the Year

OGDEN, Utah-Tuesday, Weber State football tailback Josh Davis was named as the national freshman of the year by FCS STATS and therefore the recipient of the prestigious Jerry Rice award.

Davis is only the third player in Big Sky Conference history to achieve this honor.

The Rice award is voted on by a panel of over 150 writers, broadcasters, athletic communications directors and others.

The Alta High School product set a Weber State freshman record by running for 1,362 yards, the sixth most in school history.

He ranked 12th nationally in rushing yards per game at 113.5 yards per contest and had seven 100-yard rushing games and two 200-yard rushing games.

Davis also amassed 1,779 all-purpose yards in 2018 and finished 10th nationally at 148.2 all-purpose yards per game.

Davis will receive the Rice award January 4 at Frisco, Texas on the eve of the FCS national championship game.
