Weber State Football Names Matt Hammer New Offensive Coordinator

OGDEN, Utah-Tuesday, Weber State football head coach Jay Hill named Matt Hammer as the Wildcats’ new offensive coordinator.

Hammer was promoted to this position after having previously been the inside linebackers coach for the Wildcats in 2019.

Hammer also previously served as the Wildcats’ offensive coordinator under former head coaches Ron McBride and Jody Sears (2009-12).

During his previous stint at Weber State, he coached several All-Americans. Among them were quarterback Cameron Higgins, tailback Trevyn Smith and receiver Tim Toone, a draft pick of the Detroit Lions in 2010.

Hammer was the head coach at nearby Weber High School from 2013-2018 before returning to the Wildcats in 2019.

Hammer is a 2006 graduate of Southern Utah University, earning a degree in physical education.

He was a receiver and defensive back for the Thunderbirds from 2001-2005 and prior to that, starred as a multi-sport athlete at Clearfield High School, excelling at football and baseball for the Falcons.
