OREM, Utah-Wednesday, Utah Valley University announced it will join The Big West for the 2026-27 academic year.
The Wolverines will now compete in 13 Big West Conference-sponsored sports:
baseball
men’s basketball
women’s basketball
men’s cross country
women’s cross country
men’s golf
women’s golf
softball
men’s track and field
women’s track and field
women’s volleyball
UVU’s men’s wrestling team will continue to compete at The Big 12 level.
As of July 1, 2026, the Wolverines will officially join the Big West. Also in the conference will be

Then known as UVSC, the Wolverines started an athletic department in 1972-1973 and joined the Scenic West Athletic Conference in 1986.
In 2003-04, then-UVU made history by becoming the first athletic department to immediately advance from junior college status to NCAA Division I.
This is the first time the Beehive State will have a Big West representative since Utah State left the conference in 2005.
