LOGAN, Utah-Utah State junior center Neemias Queta was selected as the Mountain West Conference’s player of the year Monday per a vote conducted by media who cover the conference.
Queta, a native of Barreiro, Portugal, was also unanimously named as the conference’s defensive player of the year by the media.
Queta leads the Aggies in scoring (14.7 points per game), rebounding (9.9 boards per game) and blocked shots (75). His 75 blocked shots rank him fourth nationally.
Queta was also named to the all-Mountain West Conference first team and his teammates, junior forward Justin Bean and junior guard Brock Miller achieved all-conference second team and honorable mention honors respectively.
Queta is joined on the All-Mountain West Conference first team by Colorado State sophomore forward David Roddy, San Diego State senior forward Matt Mitchell, Nevada sophomore guard Grant Sherfield and Boise State redshirt senior junior guard Derrick Alston Jr.
Queta and his Aggies teammates are in action again Thursday at the Mountain West Conference tournament quarterfinals at Las Vegas.
Utah State will play the winner of the UNLV-Air Force game Wednesday evening.
