SALT LAKE CITY-Wednesday, University of Utah men’s basketball head coach Craig Smith announced the hiring of assistant coach DeMarlo Slocum.
Slocum served as an assistant coach for the Utes from 2011-2019 under former Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak.
In the interim, Slocum served on former UNLV head coach T.J. Otzelberger’s staff the past two seasons for the Runnin’ Rebels.
A native Las Vegan, Slocum helped the Runnin’ Rebels achieve a 20-16 (.556) record during his time at UNLV.
Furthermore, the past two seasons, Slocum assisted the Runnin’ Rebels in the classroom as 11 UNLV student-athletes posted a 3.0 GPA or greater during the Spring 2020 semester.
During his previous time with the Utes, Slocum helped current NBA standouts Delon Wright and Kyle Kuzma reach the next level.
Slocum has also served as an assistant coach at Colorado State (where he worked alongside Smith) and Idaho while working as USC’s director of operations under then-Trojans head coach Tim Floyd in the 2005-06 season.
Slocum played men’s basketball for Dixie State College (now Dixie State University) and Georgia Southern.
He is a 2001 graduate of Georgia Southern, earning a degree in public recreation and kinesiology.
Slocum expressed his gratitude for this opportunity Wednesday.
