Utah Football Commences Spring Practice Tuesday

SALT LAKE CITY-University of Utah football commences spring football practice Tuesday, kicking off 15 practice sessions through the spring football game April 23 at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

The spring game will occur at 12:00 pm.

Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham is entering his 18th season, making him the longest-tenured head coach in the Pac-12.

The Utes return 60 letter-winners, including 17 net starters from 2021.

Among the more prominent ones are junior quarterback Cameron Rising and junior tailback Tavion Thomas, as they are first-team All-Pac-12 returners for Utah.

The Utes have also announced their team captains for 2022 as confirmed in February: Rising, senior tight end Brant Kuithe (a returning All-Pac 12 second team performer), senior defensive tackle Devin Kaufusi, sophomore cornerback Clark Phillips III (a returning All-Pac 12 second team performer) and junior kicker Jadon Redding.

Whittingham and his coaching staff also selected the team’s leadership council. Among the contributors are former Milford High School star quarterback Bryson Barnes, who is entering his sophomore season for the Utes.

The Utes also welcome 25 transfers into the program who will be at spring practice. Among them are former Florida linebacker Mohamoud Diabate, a senior out of Auburn, Ala.

In 37 games with the Gators, Diabate has posted 176 tackles, 14 tackles for a loss and 6 sacks.
