3A First Round Playoffs
BLUFFDALE, Utah-Olivia Backus netted 19 points and the No. 13 Summit Academy Bears downed No. 20 Providence Hall 41-18 Wednesday in the first round of the 3A girls basketball playoffs. Ireland Anderson’s 10 points led the Patriots in defeat. The Bears next face No. 4 Carbon Saturday in the 2nd round of the state playoffs.
OGDEN, Utah-The No. 14 Ben Lomond Scots downed No. 19 Union in the first round of the 3A girls basketball playoffs Wednesday with a 52-31 victory. The Scots next visit No. 3 Morgan in the 2nd round of the state playoffs Saturday.
SPANISH FORK, Utah-Tiffany Tervort recorded 16 points and the No. 16 American Leadership Eagles downed No. 17 North Sanpete 36-32 Wednesday in the first round of the 3A girls basketball playoffs. Jessica Applegarth had 9 points in the loss for the Hawks. The Eagles next face No. 1 Grantsville Saturday in the 2nd round of the state playoffs.
DRAPER, Utah-Alynn Crooms posted 25 points and the No. 15 Juan Diego Soaring Eagle downed No. 18 South Summit 65-52 in the first round of the 3A girls basketball playoffs Wednesday. Emma Broadbent had 26 points in the loss for the Wildcats. Juan Diego next visits No. 2 Richfield in the 2nd round of the state playoffs Saturday.
2A 1st Round
ENTERPRISE, Utah-Liza Balajadia netted 12 points and the No. 11 Enterprise Wolves hammered No. 22 Freedom Prep 67-19 Wednesday in the first round of the 2A girls basketball playoffs. Kali Bradshaw had 9 points in defeat for the Eagles. Enterprise next faces No. 6 Parowan Saturday in the 2nd round of the state playoffs.
FILLMORE, Utah-Kara Camp’s 10 points led the way and the No. 10 Millard Eagles decimated No. 23 Wasatch Academy 76-7 in the first round of the 2A girls basketball playoffs Wednesday. Tenzin Bhuti led the Tigers with 3 points in defeat. Millard next draws No. 7 South Sevier in the 2nd round of the state playoffs Saturday.
OGDEN, Utah-Lizzie Randal’s 21 points paced No. 13 St. Joseph to a 56-22 rout of No. 20 Utah Military Hill Field Wednesday in the first round of the 2A girls basketball playoffs. Rosemary Arana had 12 points for the Thunderbirds in the loss. The Jayhawks next meet No. 4 Draper APA Saturday in the 2nd round of the state playoffs.
EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah-Kiaya Bond amassed 37 points and the No. 12 Rockwell Marshals shellacked No. 21 APA West Valley 63-31 in the first round of the 2A girls basketball playoffs Wednesday. The Marshals next visit No. 5 North Sevier in the 2nd round of the state playoffs Saturday.
SALT LAKE CITY-Angie Capella recorded 21 points and the No. 17 Maeser Lions upset No. 16 Rowland Hall Wednesday in the first round of the 2A girls basketball playoffs. Zakrie Smith had 15 points in defeat for the Winged Lions. Maeser next faces No. 1 Beaver Saturday in the 2nd round of the state playoffs.
BLANDING, Utah-Synessa Atcitty led the way with 16 points and the No. 15 San Juan Broncos surged past No. 18 Gunnison Valley 48-35 in the first round of the 2A girls basketball playoffs Wednesday. Rilee Dyreng’s game-high 21 points led the Bulldogs in defeat. The Broncos next visit No. 2 North Summit in the 2nd round of the state playoffs Saturday.
SPRINGVILLE, Utah-The No. 19 Waterford Ravens upset No. 14 Merit 44-40 Wednesday in the first round of the 2A girls basketball playoffs. The Ravens next face No. 3 Kanab Saturday in the 2nd round of the state playoffs.
Region 20 Tournament
PANGUITCH, Utah-Tabetha Henrie led the way with 20 points and the No. 4 Panguitch Bobcats downed No. 5 Bryce Valley in the first round of the Region 20 tournament Wednesday. Kinlee Brinkerhoff led the Mustangs in the loss with 9 points. Panguitch next faces No. 1 Piute Friday at Panguitch High School Friday at 6:00 pm in the region tournament semifinals.
ORDERVILLE, Utah-Ruth Cox netted 17 points and the No. 2 Valley Buffaloes waxed No. 7 Milford 50-39 Wednesday in the first round of the Region 20 tournament. Tayleah Spaulding had 9 points in the loss for the Tigers. The Buffaloes next meet No. 3 Wayne Friday at Panguitch High School in the region tournament semifinals at 3:00 pm
BICKNELL, Utah-Savannah Williams posted 15 points and 7 steals and the No. 3 Wayne Badgers clobbered No. 6 Escalante 72-41 in the first round of the Region 20 tournament Wednesday. Mazee Dunton led the Moquis with 15 points in the loss.
