3-A Second Round
PRICE, Utah-Travis Thomson netted 19 points and 7 rebounds on 6-10 shooting as the Manti Templars bested North Sanpete 60-44 Saturday at USU-Eastern Utah in the second round of the 3-A boys basketball playoffs. Trevin Morley had 11 points on 3-5 shooting in the loss for the Hawks. Manti improves to 22-1 and 13-0 in Region 14 play. North Sanpete’s season ends at 8-15 and 4-9 in Region 14 play. The Templars next face Grantsville Thursday morning at 11:10 am in the state quarterfinals at Salt Lake Community College at Taylorsville.
PRICE, Utah-Brennen Hunt posted 19 points and 5 rebounds and made a pair of clutch free throws in the closing seconds as the South Sevier Rams upset Delta 48-45 Saturday in the second round of the 3-A boys basketball playoffs at USU-Eastern Utah. Hunt made all 10 of his free throws on the evening, while the Rams shot 87.5 percent (21-24) at the foul line, an integral component in their victory. Derek Smith had 25 points and 10 rebounds in the loss for the Rabbits. South Sevier next draws Emery Thursday afternoon at 12:50 pm in the state quarterfinals at Salt Lake Community College at Taylorsville.
PRICE, Utah-Joshua Thalman amassed 19 points, making 9-11 free throws, as the Richfield Wildcats edged South Summit 62-57 Saturday in the battle of the Wildcats at USU-Eastern Utah in the second round of the 3-A state playoffs. Morgan Albrecht added 12 points and 5 rebounds on 3-6 shooting for Richfield and made a pair of clutch free throws in the closing seconds to help Richfield survive and advance. The Wildcats next face Morgan Thursday at 2:30 pm in the 3-A state quarterfinals at Salt Lake Community College at Taylorsville.
PRICE, Utah-Seth Hadley posted 14 points and the Morgan Trojans dismantled Juab 61-45 in the second round of the 3-A boys basketball state tournament at USU-Easern Utah Saturday. The Trojans shot 19-22 (86.4 percent) at the foul line for the game which helped them close the Wasps out in the second half. Jake Bailey had 11 points on 3-6 from the field in defeat for the Wasps.
2-A Second Round
EPHRAIM, Utah-Burke Mickelsen led the way with 23 points and the North Sevier Wolves upset Gunnison Valley 72-67 Saturday in the second round of the 2-A state playoffs at Snow College. Creed Mogle led the Bulldogs in the loss with 20 points. North Sevier next draws Draper APA Thursday at 9:30 am in the 2-A state quarterfinals at the Sevier Valley Center.
EPHRAIM, Utah-Sam Orton amassed 28 points and the Kanab Cowboys decimated Monticello 85-47 Saturday at Snow College in the second round of the 2-A state playoffs. Boston Freestone led the Buckaroos in the loss with 11 points. Kanab will next face Enterprise at 11:10 am Thursday in the 2-A state quarterfinals at the Sevier Valley Center.
EPHRAIM, Utah-Ky Brown stepped up with 17 points and the Beaver Beavers edged Duchesne 60-57 in the second round of the 2-A state playoffs Saturday at Snow College. Kason Grant had 15 points in defeat for the Eagles. Beaver next faces Parowan Thursday at 12:30 pm in the 2-A state quarterfinals at the Sevier Valley Center.
EPHRAIM, Utah-Keba Keita’s 23 points led the way as American Heritage downed Millard 71-56 Saturday at Snow College in the second round of the 2-A state playoffs. Tyce Davies led the Eagles in the loss with 12 points.
Region 20 Tournament Championship Game
MONROE, Utah-Sergio Vasquez stepped up with 13 points and the Bryce Valley Mustangs downed Panguitch 50-42 in the Region 20 Tournament championship game at South Sevier High School. Klyn Fullmer had 12 points in the loss for the Bobcats. Bryce Valley is now 1-A’s No. 1 seed headed into the 1-A state tournament February 26-29 at Richfield High School and the Sevier Valley Center.
