MT. PLEASANT, Utah-Ty Allan posted 14 points and 5 rebounds on 5-7 from the field and the No. 14 North Sanpete Hawks clobbered No. 19 Ben Lomond 68-37 Tuesday in the first round of the 3A boys state basketball playoffs. The Hawks shot 58 percent (28-48) for the game. Jake East led the Scots in defeat with 14 points on 5-10 from the field. North Sanpete next visits No. 3 Emery Friday in the 2nd round of the 3A state playoffs.
ROOSEVELT, Utah-Wayke Olsen and Brady Bell had 12 points apiece and the No. 15 Union Cougars outlasted No. 18 Delta 38-35 in the first round of the 3A boys state basketball playoffs Tuesday. Cai Henderson and Bronco Bundy each had 13 points in the loss for the Rabbits. Union next visits No. 2 Richfield in the 2nd round of the 3A state playoffs Friday.
HERRIMAN, Utah-The No. 16 Providence Hall Patriots bested No. 17 Grand 81-70 Tuesday in the first round of the 3A boys state basketball playoffs. Providence Hall next visits No. 1 Manti in the 2nd round of the 3A state playoffs Friday.
2A 1st Round Playoffs
COALVILLE, Utah-Sawyer Richins posted 20 points and 5 rebounds and the No. 13 North Summit Braves clobbered the No. 20 Merit Knights 83-23 in the first round of the 2A boys state basketball playoffs Tuesday. The Braves next visit No. 4 South Sevier Friday in the 2nd round of the 2A state playoffs.
SANDY, Utah-Carson Reynolds netted 16 points and the No. 16 Waterford Ravens bested No. 17 St. Joseph 52-38 Tuesday in the first round of the 2A boys state basketball playoffs. Tyler Arroyo had 13 points in the loss for the Jayhawks. Waterford next visits No. 1 Enterprise in the 2nd round of the 2A state playoffs Friday.
DRAPER, Utah-Taggart Harris posted 23 points and 10 rebounds and the No. 18 Beaver Beavers upset No. 15 Draper APA 60-57 in the first round of the 2A boys state basketball playoffs Tuesday. Ian Campbell’s 17 points led the Eagles in defeat. Beaver next visits No. 2 Millard Friday in the 2nd round of the 2A state playoffs.
GUNNISON, Utah-Cody Hammond’s 21 points led the way and the No. 14 Gunnison Valley Bulldogs dismantled No. 19 Maeser Prep 65-50 Tuesday in the first round of the 2A boys state basketball playoffs. Isaac Okawa, Kale Garner and Jerry Gadd had 12 points apiece Tuesday in the loss for the Lions. The Bulldogs next visit No. 3 Kanab in the 2nd round of the 2A state playoffs Friday.
SALINA, Utah-Randy Elmer netted 16 points and the No. 11 North Sevier Wolves waxed No. 22 Freedom Prep 80-41 in the first round of the 2A boys state basketball playoffs Tuesday. Caden Imes led the Eagles in defeat with 10 points. North Sevier next visits No. 6 APA West Valley Friday in the 2nd round of the 2A state playoffs.
EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah-Kolton Henderson amassed 33 points and the No. 12 Rockwell Marshals overpowered No. 21 Utah Military Hill Field 95-58 Tuesday in the first round of the 2A boys state basketball playoffs. Lloyd Andersen’s 19 points led the Thunderbirds in the loss. Rockwell next visits No. 5 American Heritage Tuesday in the 2nd round of the 2A state playoffs.
Region 20
HURRICANE, Utah-The Escalante Moquis secured the No. 8 seed in the Region 20 tournament by downing the Diamond Ranch Diamondbacks 49-45 in Region 20 boys basketball play Tuesday. The Moquis will next visit No. 1 Panguitch Thursday at 5:00 pm in the first round of the Region 20 tournament.
