8-Player Semifinals
CEDAR CITY, Utah-Tyreek Hopkins ran for 175 yards and a score on 10 carries and the No. 1 Gunnison Valley Bulldogs routed No. 4 Water Canyon 61-6 in the 8-player semifinals Thursday at Eccles Coliseum.
The Bulldogs raced to a 51-6 lead at the half and cruised to victory as they will now play for their first state title in football in program history at an unspecified location and time on an unspecified date.
Jonathan Timpson hauled in a 67-yard scoring pass in defeat for the Wildcats.
Gunnison Valley next plays Monticello for an 8-player state championship.
CEDAR CITY, Utah-Jay McDonald scored the go-ahead touchdown and Easton Young successfully converted the subsequent 2-point attempt as the No. 3 Monticello Buckaroos upset No. 2 Rich 21-20 at Eccles Coliseum Thursday in the 8-player semifinals.
Javlin Robison (18 car, 73 yards, TD) led the Buckaroos. Levi Stonehouse (2 rec, 79 yards, TD) led the Rebels in the loss.
