MANTI, Utah-The No. 13 Manti Templars blanked No. 20 Summit Academy 3-0 in the first round of the 3A volleyball playoffs Saturday. The Templars prevailed 25-10, 25-21, 25-16 to record the straight sets victory. The Templars next face No. 4 Grantsville Friday at 4:00 pm at UVU in the second round.
CASTLE DALE, Utah-The No. 12 Emery Spartans stymied No. 21 Ben Lomond 3-0 Saturday in the first round of the 3A volleyball playoffs. The Spartans prevailed over the Scots 25-6, 25-11, 25-10. The Spartans next face No. 5 Delta in the second round Friday at 4:00 pm at UVU.
SPANISH FORK, Utah-The No. 18 Grand Red Devils upset No. 15 ALA 3-2 in the first round of the 3A volleyball playoffs Saturday. The Red Devils bested the Eagles 18-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-8, 25-13. The Red Devils next face No. 2 Richfield at UVU Friday in the second round of the 3A playoffs.
NEPHI, Utah-The No. 16 Juab Wasps downed No. 17 Layton Christian 3-0 in the first round of the 3A volleyball playoffs Saturday. The Wasps prevailed in straight sets 25-8, 25-17, 25-10. Juab next faces No. 1 Morgan Friday at 4:00 pm in the second round of the state playoffs at UVU.
SALT LAKE CITY-The No. 14 Judge Memorial Bulldogs dismantled No. 19 Providence Hall 3-0 Saturday in the first round of the 3A volleyball playoffs. The Bulldogs prevailed over the Patriots 25-16, 25-8, 25-15 to net the straight sets victory. The Bulldogs next face No. 3 Ogden in second round of the state playoffs Friday at 5:30 pm at UVU.
2A 1st Round
SALT LAKE CITY-The No. 15 Rowland Hall-St. Mark’s Winged Lions blanked No. 18 Rockwell 3-0 Saturday in the first round of the 2A volleyball playoffs. The Winged Lions downed the Marshals 25-11, 25-13, 25-18 to prevail in straight sets. Rowland Hall next faces No. 2 Kanab Friday at 5:30 pm in the second round of the state playoffs at the Sevier Valley Center.
OGDEN, Utah-The No. 12 St. Joseph Jayhawks waxed No. 21 APA West Valley 3-0 in the first round of the 2A volleyball playoffs Saturday. The Jayhawks downed the Eagles 25-10, 25-7, 25-13 for the straight sets win. St. Joseph next faces No. 5 Duchesne Friday at 4:00 pm at the Sevier Valley Center in the second round of the state playoffs.
PROVO, Utah-The No. 17 Beaver Beavers overpowered No. 16 Freedom Prep 3-1 Saturday in the first round of the 2A volleyball playoffs. The Beavers downed the Eagles 21-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-16. The Beavers next face No. 1 Parowan Friday at 4:00 pm at the Sevier Valley Center in the second round of the state tournament.
AMERICAN FORK, Utah-The No. 19 Wasatch Academy Tigers downed No. 14 American Heritage 3-2 in the first round of the 2A volleyball playoffs Saturday. The Tigers bested the Patriots 23-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-19, 15-10 to advance. Wasatch Academy next faces No. 3 North Summit Friday at 5:30 pm in the second round of the state tournament at the Sevier Valley Center.
1A 1st Round
GREEN RIVER, Utah-The No. 13 Green River Pirates sank the No. 20 Pinnacle Panthers 3-0 Saturday in the first round of the 1A volleyball playoffs. The Pirates swept the Panthers 25-7, 25-7, 25-10. Green River next faces No. 4 Tabiona Friday at 9:00 am in the second round of the state playoffs at the Sevier Valley Center.
SALT LAKE CITY-The No. 17 Bryce Valley Mustangs surged past No. 16 Intermountain Christian 3-0 in the first round of the 1A volleyball playoffs Saturday. The Mustangs bested the Lions 25-16, 25-22, 25-10. The Mustangs next face No. 1 Rich Friday at 9:00 am at the Sevier Valley Center in the second round of the playoffs.
EUREKA, Utah-The No. 15 Tintic Miners outlasted No. 18 Whitehorse 3-2 Saturday in the first round of the 1A volleyball playoffs. The Miners prevailed over the Raiders 25-13, 20-25, 22-25, 25-11, 15-10. The Miners next face No. 2 Panguitch Friday at 10:30 am in the second round of the playoffs at the Sevier Valley Center.
Girls Soccer
3A State Championship
HERRIMAN, Utah-The No. 1 Real Salt Lake Academy Griffins repelled the Cinderella No. 6 Ogden Tigers 4-3 on penalty kicks to record their first all-time state championship in girls soccer winning the 3A title Saturday at Zions Bank Stadium.
2A State Championship
HERRIMAN, Utah-Beatrix Wall and Zakrie Smith each scored and the No. 2 Rowland Hall-St. Mark’s Winged Lions upset No. 1 St. Joseph 2-1 Saturday at Zions Bank Stadium to capture the 2A state girls soccer title. The Winged Lions have now won seven state titles in girls soccer: 2007, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.
