PROVO, Utah-Monday, per news from college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, BYU men’s basketball head coach Kevin Young hired Will Voigt as his lead assistant.
Voigt come to the Cougars program from the Austin Spurs where he served as the head coach for the San Antonio Spurs’ NBA G-League team.
Voigt has a decorated coaching career at both the NBA and Division I men’s basketball levels.
After starring at NCAA Division III Pomona (Calif.), Voigt began his coaching career in the 1998-99 season as an intern for the Los Angeles Clippers.
Since then, Voigt has spent time with the Spurs as a video coordinator (1999-2001), as an assistant at Texas (2001-2002), and NCAA Division II Metro State (2002-2003), the head coach of Ulriken Elite of Norway (2003-2006), the Vermont Frost Heaves of the ABA/PBL (2006-2009), the Bakersfield Jam of the ABA (2009-2014), an assistant with the Shanxi Brave Dragons (China; 2014-2015), the head coach of Telekom Baskets Bonn of Bonn, Germany (2020) and the head coach of Zamaelk of Giza, Egypt (2022).
