OGDEN, Utah-Wednesday, Weber State head football coach Jay Hill was named the Region 5 Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association.
Hill earned the honor in 2019 as well, commemorating the second consecutive football-playing season he has won the award.
AFCA honors are selected by coaches in each region. The Waco, Texas-based organization will name its National Coach of the Year during the week leading up to the NCAA FCS National Championship.
The FCS national title game is slated for May 16 at Frisco, Texas.
Hill is 52-30 (.634) at Weber State and is second in school annals in winning percentage and first in winning percentage in conference games (Big Sky conference games in his case) in program history.
Hill has also been named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award by STATS Perform, which honors the national coach of the year. This award is named in honor of the legendary Grambling State head coach who coached numerous Pro Football Hall of Famers at the helm of the Tigers’ program from 1941-1997, posting a record of 408-165-15 (.707).
The 5-0 Wildcats host the Southern Illinois Salukis Saturday at 2:00 pm at Stewart Stadium in the first round of the NCAA FCS playoffs.
