OGDEN, Utah-Friday, Weber State football head coach Jay Hill added veteran college football coach Gary Andersen to his staff.

This comes less than a week before the Wildcats’ season-opener at Utah.

Andersen will serve as an advisor and assist the defensive coaching staff in all aspects of coaching. He will also be in the press box during games.

Andersen has been a head coach previously at both levels of Division I football. At the FCS level, he was the head coach at Southern Utah University. At the FBS level, he has served as the head coach at Utah State, Wisconsin and Oregon State.

He has also been a longtime assistant at the University of Utah under former head coach Ron McBride, who also served as the head coach at Weber State, Urban Meyer and Kyle Whittingham.

When Hill was a defensive back at Utah in 1998 and 1999, Andersen coached the Utes’ defensive line.

Andersen’s coaching career commenced in 1989 at Ricks College (now BYU-Idaho) of Rexburg, Idaho.

Andersen then coached at Idaho State and Northern Arizona and spent a single season as the head coach at Park City High School.

His head coaching career commenced at SUU in 2003.
