FORT WORTH, Texas-Monday, BYU football sophomore signal-caller Jaren Hall was among eight quarterbacks named to the Davey O’Brien Award’s Great 8 list for his performance in the Cougars’ 26-17 win over Utah at LaVell Edwards Stadium Saturday.
Hall completed 18 of 30 passes for 149 yards and three scores and ran eight times for 92 more yards in BYU’s first victory over their bitter rivals since 2009.
Hall was also added to the midseason watch list, making him eligible for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award.
This award is annually bestowed upon the nation’s best collegiate quarterback.
Cougars quarterbacks have won this award four times. The others to have done so include Jim McMahon (1981), Steve Young (1983) and Ty Detmer (1990 and 1991).
