Former BYU Football All-American Tight End, Gordon Hudson, Dead At 59

SALT LAKE CITY-Per news released Wednesday, former BYU Football All-American tight end Gordon Hudson is dead at 59.

His obituary confirms he passed away September 27 at San Jose, Calif. of natural causes.

A memorial service is projected for 2022.

Hudson went into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2009.

A native of Washington state, Hudson moved to the Salt Lake City area for his final year of high school football in 1979.

Hudson played football, basketball and baseball in high school and was part of the prestigious 1980 signing class of BYU that included Steve Young, Vai Sikahema, Adam Haysbert and Todd Shell.

From 1981-1983, Hudson caught 178 receptions for 2,484 yards and 22 touchdowns.

During Hudson’s time with the Cougars, BYU went 30-7 (.811).

Following his collegiate career, Hudson was selected in the first round of the United States Football League draft by the Los Angeles Express, becoming Young’s teammate.

In the first round of the NFL Supplemental draft, following the USFL’s demise, Hudson was selected by the Seattle Seahawks.

In the 1986 season, Hudson caught 13 passes for 131 yards and a score for the Seahawks after which his NFL career ended.
