SAN FRANCISCO-Monday, University of Utah football freshmen standouts, defensive end Van Fillinger and linebacker Karene Reid earned Pac-12 player of the week honors.
By virtue of their contributions to the Utes’ 24-13 win over Washington State Saturday, Fillinger and Reid won conference defensive line player of the week and freshman of the week honors, respectively.
Fillinger, a defensive end out of Draper, Utah, posted three sacks in the Utes’ victory against the Cougars.
Reid, a native of American Fork, Utah and a product of Timpview High School of Provo, posted 15 tackles, a sack and an interception in Saturday’s win.
The Utes return to action October 9 at USC.
