WEST BOUNTIFUL CITY, Utah-The 1A Boys golf state tournament wrapped up on Wednesday after two days of golf at Lakeside Golf Course and the Rich Rebels prevailed as the 2024 1A State Champions. The Rebels shot a 706 as a team, good for 14 strokes ahead of second place Wayne as the Badgers shot a 720. Valley finished in third place, Panguitch came in fourth and Monticello rounded out the top five.
Individually Wendover’s Trejin Tangaro was the top medalist with a score 162 for 20-over par. He finished three strokes ahead of Rich’s Noah Parry. Valley’s Ivan Spener and Piute’s Swade Olsen tied for third place, each shooting a 167, and Monticello’s Traken Lee rounded out the top five. For other area athletes in the top ten, Ammon Peterson of Wayne finished in sixth place, Panguitch’s Camden Englestead placed eighth, Keenan Chamberlain of Valley placed ninth and Wayne’s Miles Hinkle took 10th.
The Manila Mustangs girls golf team won the 2024 1A State Championship on Wednesday at Lakeside Golf Course, despite the closest golf course being an hour and a half away and primarily practicing on a simulator. The Mustangs shot a 392, 16 strokes ahead of second place Monticello. Valley came in third, Milford finished fourth and Rich rounded out the top five, while Wayne finished in sixth place.
Individually Manila’s Abby Schofield was the top medalist as she shot a 12-over par 83 to win by 11 strokes over Monticello’s Alise Lewis. Cambree Chamberlain of Monticello came in third, Rachel Cox of Valley placed fourth, while Manila’s Kallie Bair and Valley’s Kaylee Brinkerhoff tied for fifth. For other area athletes in the top ten, Wayne’s Savannah Williams placed seventh, and Tailyn Ambrose of Milford tied with four other girls for eighth place.
