Nineteen candidates have officially filed to run for different positions in Sanpete County for the upcoming 2024 election. Running unopposed for Utah State Senate District 27 is Utah Sen. Derrin Owens of Fountain Green. For the Utah State House District 66 seat, Brian Nielson of Gunnison, Linda Hanks of Levan, Leon Day of Fairview, Troy Shelley of Ephraim and Joseph Fuschsel of Spring City. One county commission seat is up for election and the candidates include Commissioner Reed Hatch, and Mike Bennett of Mayfield. There are three Sanpete County Administrative offices that will be ran unopposed. Keith Larson of Ephraim for county assessor, Talisha Johnson for county recorder and Amy Wilden for county treasurer. For the North Sanpete School Board, Stacy Goble will run unopposed in her district covering parts of Mt. Pleasant and Spring City. Shalmarie Morley of Moroni will run against Joseph A. Cook to represent Moroni and part of Mt. Pleasant. Rich Brotherson will run unopposed representing a large part of Mt. Pleasant. South Sanpete School District will have openings in two of their Districts. District two, which takes in Sterling, Mayfield, Fayette, Centerfield and Axtell will feature Loni Dee Hammond facing Markell Coates Barclay of Mayfield. In district three, which features Gunnison, Kim Pickett will be challenged by Coleen Ogden of Gunnison.
