(Washington Country, UT) — Starting this summer, large vehicles will no longer be allowed on the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway. The road runs from Canyon Junction in Zion National Park to the park’s south and east entrances. Large vehicles won’t be allowed on the Highway or tunnel after June 7th. The National Park Service defines large vehicles as anything that weighs 50-thousand-pounds, and is greater than 35-feet long, over eleven-feet tall, and seven-feet wide. One reason for the closure is to protect the road’s cultural heritage. Another is to increase visitor safety.
