(Ogden, UT) — Utah is being ranked as 5th in the nation when it comes to the gender wage gap by Utah State University. The USU study reports that on average, women in the state make 70-percent of what men make, which is lower than the national average of 82-percent. When it comes to women of different racial and ethnic groups, the gap widens even more. For example, Hispanic and Latina women make 49-percent of what white men in Utah make. Researchers say multiple factors play a role in the gap including the fact that women-dominated fields generally pay less, gender discrimination and bias, cultural norms and attitudes and more. Researchers say a multi-faceted approach is needed to address the issue.
