Utah Senate Passes School Voucher Bill

(Salt Lake City, UT) — A bill that will give Utah teachers a raise while implementing a controversial school voucher program is heading to the governor’s desk. The state Senate passed House Bill 215 on a 20-to-8 vote yesterday. The bill was opposed by several state educators and lobbying groups for tying teacher raises to the voucher program. Parents will get up to eight-thousand dollars from the state if they choose to homeschool their children or send them to private school. The governor has indicated that he does not plan to veto the bill.
