(Salt Lake City, UT) — Elected officials believe a decision on restoring the boundaries of two Utah national monuments could be coming soon. State lawmakers said this week that they believe the Biden administration will recommend restoring the boundaries of Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears national monuments to their original size. The boundaries were set in 2016 when the monuments were created by President Obama, then reduced in 2017 by President Trump. Governor Cox has said the state could file a lawsuit against the federal government if the Biden administration chooses to restore the monuments to their original size.
