(Washington, DC) — Two national monuments in Utah are facing a review this week as part of a wider look at a century-old law that allows presidents to set aside huge areas of federal land without congressional approval. Tomorrow, President Trump is expected to sign an executive order demanding the Secretary of the Interior to examine all national park designations over the past 21 years and whether they fall within the law’s intent. The review is expected to include Bill Clinton’s 1996 naming of the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument as well as President Obama’s naming of Bear Ears National Monument in December.
