Sevier County Trucking Companies Lose Coal Mine Bid

Two trucking companies in Sevier County are going to be less busy in the future. Over the weekend of Feb. 26-28, it was announced that Barney Trucking and Robinson Transport would no longer be under contract with Wolverine Fuels, for whom they delivered coal out of the Sufco, Skyline and Dugout Canyon Mines.

This contract goes up for bid every three years, and in early January 2021 the new bid was awarded to Savage Coal Services Corporation based out of Wellington UT, and was finalized in the last week of February 2021.

Sevier County Commissioner Ralph Brown met with four representatives from Sufco Mine on Mar. 1. It was shared in that meeting that Savage Coal Services is already working with many smaller trucking companies to get enough drivers to fulfill the contract.

Wolverine Fuels also shared that there are jobs available at their mines throughout the state for anyone who was laid off as a result of this new contract.
