The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens of a new scam in the county. According to a post to their Facebook page a caller, claiming to be a detective from the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, is calling citizens and telling them they or their son have a warrant for not coming to court. The caller will then ask for money to recall the warrant and typically ask you to go to the local Walmart or Walgreens and get a cash card to pay. The Sheriff’s Office reminded residents that they will never ask for money over the phone and will serve you in person if you have any civil process papers. They also ask anyone who has been a victim of this scam to report it by calling 435-896-6471.
