A North Sanpete County man was sentenced to prison on Wednesday for two counts of first-degree aggravated sex abuse of a child. Daniel John Stutz appeared before Judge Marvin Bagley, who handed down the sentence after hearing impassioned statements from Stutz’s ex-wife, as well as several of his children who were the victims. Judge Bagley mentioned reading victim statements from at least seven family members who had been abused by their father. Stutz was stopped by the Judge and warned to stop manipulating his children when he tried to tell them how much he loved them, and that he was not a monster, but had made mistakes. The Judge made sure the victims were on board with the stipulated sentence of 10 years to life for each of the first-degree felonies, the sentences running concurrent. He stated it will be up to the parole board to determine how long the sentence will run.
