Salt Lake City puts Leonardo museum on notice over bills

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Salt Lake City officials say The Leonardo art and science museum is facing possible eviction if it doesn’t come up with the money to cover nearly $400,000 in unpaid utility bills.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports the mayor’s office sent a notice of default to museum staff last month listing the city’s grievances.

Among them are utility fees at least six months past due and maintenance issues that have yet to be addressed.

The letter came to light through a public records request made by the Tribune.

Mayor’s spokesman Matthew Rojas says the city wants to find a payment plan rather than force the museum out.

The Leonardo said in a statement this week that the city’s statements are “disappointing and disingenuous.”
