Richfield Mayor Dave Ogden shared his feelings Wednesday on the failure of the bond election for a new recreation development center.
Ogden stated multiple times that he was disappointed that the bond election didn’t pass, but said that “the county has spoken.”
He also expressed his gratitude for the election process, stating “We’re very fortunate to live in a place where we have the right to vote on these types of things.”
He took the time to thank everyone who worked so hard, bought signs and paid for advertising.
Ogden stated that there is not a set plan on how next to move forward, but did state that the current pool “is in the last legs of its life.” He also went on to say that “the city will have to move forward and try to do something alone.”
Ogden concluded by stating his appreciation for the community he lives in, saying “We have a wonderful county and this is a wonderful place to live.”
The bond failed to pass with 3,013 people voting against it and 2,408 people who voted in favor.
The proposed recreation development center would have cost $22 million to be divided between Sevier County, Richfield City, and Snow College. It would have cost around $850,000 per year to maintain.
