Rape Trial Set For Hispanic Activist

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah Latino activist Tony Yapias is set to go on trial for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman last March. The former director of Utah’s Hispanic Affairs Office is accused of going to a former girlfriend’s home and raping her after she requested he stay away. Yapias currently leads Proyecto Latino de Utah, an advocacy group on immigration issues. His three-day trial is set for August 2nd.
