Prescribed Burns on Monroe Mountain

In an effort to capitalize on the recent weather, the Fishlake National Forest – Richfield Ranger District plans to conduct prescribed burns near Box Creek and Langdon on Monroe Mountain.

This will be the first entry in a multiyear project. During this first entry, crews plan to target approximately 1,000 acres over the weekend. The Fire crews will be utilizing both hand and aerial ignitions. The total area to be targeted in the coming years consists of nearly 20,000 acres of mixed conifer and aspen.

The project is an effort to reduce the threat of wildfire and restore the ecosystem through a system of proscribed burns on Monroe Mountain.
