Power Shutoffs Evacuations and Road Closures Due to Monroe Canyon Fire

Power shutoffs and new evacuations have been announced due to the Monroe Canyon Fire. In a post to their Facebook page Garkane Energy shared, “due to safety precautions…we have de-energized our transmission line that feeds Wayne County, Greenwich, Angle, Burrville, Koosharem, Antimony and Fish Lake basin. We are working closely with fire crews to get power restored as quickly as possible.” This will likely be an extended outage lasting possibly three to five days.

According to Monroe City Mayor Johnny Parsons, four homes up Monrovian Canyon and six or seven homes just outside of city limits on the south side of town have been evacuated. Authorities went door to door notifying residents, so if you weren’t contacted you are not part of the evacuation.

SR-24 was temporarily closed between Aurora and Loa, but has since been reopened.

As of this morning, the fire is listed at 48,363 acres and is 11 percent contained. There are currently 1,132 personnel assigned to fight the fire and the cause is still under investigation.
