A Piute County teen was sentenced to a term of 25 years to life on Aug 28, for the murder of his girlfriend in January. Francisco Daniel Aguilar pleaded guilty on June 12 to the aggravated murder of 16 year old Jacqueline Nunez-Millan, a non capitol offense because he was 17 years old at the time. Sheriff Marty Gleave stated, “justice was done today in our county – for Jacky’s family, for Makall (the second victim who the defendant shot at as she was trying to save Jacky), and for our community.” Piute County Attorney Scott Berns said the crime devastated the community, including every small town along U.S. 89 in Piute County. When Aguilar was asked why he killed his girlfriend he said, “there’s no justification for what I did. I acted impulsively, irrationally, out of anger and I regret it every day of my life.”
