Nominees announced for Sixth District Court judge

The Sixth District Judicial Nominating Commission has announced the nominees being considered to replace Judge Marvin Bagley, who is retiring September 30.  The nominees include Kent Burggraaf, city attorney for Kanab; Arik Butler, former Sanpete County deputy county attorney, who now works in the Attorney General’s office; Jeffrey Makin, senior vice president of legal at Sunrun, Inc.; Michael Mathie, attorney at Mathie Law and associate general counsel at TaxHawk, Inc.; and Robert Van Dyke, Kane County attorney.

The public is invited to submit written comments regarding the nominees. Comments can be emailed to judicialvacancies@utah.gov or mailed to the Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice in Salt Lake City. The deadline for submissions is August 12 at noon.

After reviewing the public comments, the Nominating Commission will forward a final list of nominees to Governor Spencer Cox, who will have 30 days to make an appointment. The appointment will then be subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate.
