On Oct. 20, water was shut off at Red Hills Middle School. Richfield City was installing a new water line to a home being built in the area, when an old water line was struck and ruptured. Due to this, there was no running water at the school.
A message was sent to students’ parents sharing that the school had water bottles for students to drink as well as outdoor restrooms. It also stated that they would proceed with the normal schedule, and pickup and buses would run regular schedule as well.
According to Sevier School District Superintendent Cade Douglass, each classroom already had a supply of water bottles as part of the schools emergency preparedness and White’s sanitation was able to quickly bring outdoor restrooms to the school.
Douglass also shared that the district finds in these situations, its safest to keep kids in school for the regular schedule as apposed to trying to send the students home at an abnormal time when family might not be there. He than thanked the staff at RHMS for all the work they are doing to keep kids safe and in school.
Richfield City workers shared they believe the water line will be fixed by the end of the day Oct. 20.
