A Mt. Pleasant teen who earlier pleaded guilty to robbery, kidnapping, felony discharge of a firearm and two other felonies was sentenced to additional jail time on Wednesday, August 7. Alex Balderrama Hernandez, 18, could have been sentenced to prison, but a pre-sentence investigation recommended additional jail time in lieu of prison. When Judge Marvin Bagley suspended the prison time, he said he hoped it wasn’t a mistake, and that it appeared the only reason Hernandez wasn’t going to prison was because of his age. Sanpete County Attorney Kevin Daniels said the crimes were the type that instills fear in an entire community and said the victim and his family suffered substantial psychological damage from his action. Hernandez was then sentenced to spend 210 days in jail with no credit for time served, be on supervised probation for 48 months and pay $5,775 in restitution.
