SALT LAKE CITY (AP)-Monday, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir announced the dates for the 2017 application period for singers to join the organization.
The period is currently ongoing and will run through August 15 with auditions open for all voice parts.
For membership in the storied choir, all applicants must be members in good standing of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and be between 25 and 55 years of age as of April 30, 2018.
Additionally, they must live within 100 miles of the Salt Lake Tabernacle at Temple Square.
Those who audition for the Choir must pass through three stages: submission of a completed application (this also includes a CD voice recording and a bishop’s recommendation), a musical skills assessment and an in-person audition before the music director and an interview with the choir’s president.
The process resumes at this point in January 2018 and will entail 16 weeks of participation in the Temple Square Chorale and Choir School.
Once the 16 weeks have been completed, there is a final Choir School exam and performance by the chorale after which the selections will be made.
